1. Identity of the Data Controller

The Garden of Dreamers project constitutes a non-commercial social experiment examining adult life aspirations globally. The symbolic participation fee specified on the platform serves exclusively to verify participant intent and offset minimal operational expenditures. This initiative does not constitute a commercial service.

2. Personal Data Collected

Upon participation, you voluntarily provide the following personal data:

  • Email address – utilized exclusively for transmitting payment receipts and, optionally, project updates.

  • Age bracket – categorized into age groups (e.g., 18–25, 26–35); never publicly disclosed.

  • Country and municipality – employed solely to position your symbolic tree within the appropriate geographic sector of the Garden.

  • Dream designation and category – selected from eight predefined life spheres (Health, Relationships, Family, Career, Finance, Spirituality, Personal Development, Joy).

We do not associate technical network identifiers (such as IP addresses) with your user profile or dream entries, nor do we collect precise geolocation coordinates or payment instrumentation details. Payment processing is conducted exclusively by secure third-party payment processors (including, but not limited to, Stripe and PayPal), with no retention of financial data by our organization.

3. Public Display: Dual Independent Consent Mechanism

Your symbolic tree may appear in the public Garden of Dreamers exclusively upon your explicit consent. You maintain independent control over two discrete consent options within your personal dashboard:

  • Consent 1: "Display my dream designation"

    • Upon granting consent: Your designated dream title appears adjacent to your symbolic tree.

    • Upon withholding consent: Your tree appears in an anonymized form (e.g., as an unlabeled silhouette or generic bonsai).

  • Consent 2: "Position my tree within my municipal and national zone"

    • Upon granting consent: Your tree is positioned within the appropriate territorial demarcation (e.g., Europe $\rightarrow$ Germany $\rightarrow$ Berlin).

    • Upon withholding consent: Your tree shall never appear within the public Garden visualization.

You retain the right to grant, modify, or withdraw either consent at any time without prejudice. Your age classification shall NEVER be displayed within the public Garden visualization under any circumstances.

4. Protection Measures for Participants from Smaller Municipalities

To prevent inadvertent identification:

  • Municipalities with fewer than five (5) participants shall not display individual trees at the municipal level.

  • Such participants' trees shall instead be aggregated under "Other municipalities in [Country]" (e.g., "Other municipalities in Germany").

  • These trees remain within their appropriate national zone but are not attributed to any specific municipality in public displays.

5. Aggregate Statistical Reporting

Public visualizations and reports shall display exclusively aggregated, consent-based statistical information, including but not limited to:

  • "Berlin — 1,000 dreamers" (contingent upon $\ge 5$ consenting participants)

  • "Other municipalities in Germany — 87 dreamers"

  • "United States — 1,500,000 dreamers"

All published statistics reflect exclusively participants who have expressly consented to geographic positioning.

6. Lawful Basis for Processing

  • Consent pursuant to Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR — for the publication of dream designations and/or geographic positioning of participant trees.

  • Performance of a Contract pursuant to Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR — for processing participation and transmitting transaction receipts.

  • Legitimate Interests pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR — for anonymized academic research and public reporting.

7. Data Subject Rights

Pursuant to applicable data protection legislation, you maintain the right to:

  • Obtain a complete copy of all personal data undergoing processing.

  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete personal data.

  • Withdraw consent for specific processing activities at any time.

  • Request the complete erasure of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").

  • Lodge a formal complaint with a relevant supervisory authority (particularly within the European Economic Area).

8. Data Security and Retention Protocol

  • All personal data is maintained on end-to-end encrypted servers with strictly limited access protocols.

  • Personal data is retained for a maximum period of three (3) years following your last interaction with our platform.

  • Upon receipt of a valid erasure request or upon expiration of the retention period, all personal data is permanently and irreversibly expunged from our systems.

9. Third-Party Services (Google)

When using Google sign-in services, your information is processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
